Customer Description

Our customer is a leading third-party logistics provider (3PL). Spanning across multiple industries, they are a leader in non-asset based transportation, warehousing and distribution, and value-added services. They assist companies of all sizes with warehousing, fulfillment, returns, and related services.

Problem/Inquiry

Our customer needed to expand their order picking area by roughly 40,000 square feet and were considering two options. The first was to move into a new facility to gain the needed space and the second was a two level mezzanine at their existing facility. They wanted to analyze these options and compare both time and cost.

Solution

Within 48 hours of contacting Mezzanine Distributors, our customer received a firm budget price which included all mezzanine materials, (2) vertical reciprocating conveyors, a fire sprinkler system, and an LED lighting system. This allowed our customer to make an informed decision between the mezzanine option and the new building. As is often the case, the mezzanine option would allow them to achieve the needed space quicker and more economically than the new building option. The customer estimated they would save about $1.5 million.

We worked with the customer to design and engineer the mezzanine so that the number of pick locations was maximized, there was no need for concrete footers, and all systems would work seamlessly with each other.

We worked with our manufacturer, Cogan (www.cogan.com), to fabricate all materials and made sure they were onsite on the day that the customer requested. Due to the size of the mezzanine, materials were shipped and then subsequently installed in two phases.

Towards the end of the mezzanine installation, we installed the NFPA-compliant fire sprinkler system, the LED lighting system, and the vertical reciprocating conveyors.

Mezzanine Distributors also permitted all of these systems, performed final inspections, and received necessary Certificates of Occupancy for the systems.
