Let’s take a look at one part every mezzanine must have — a floor.
Based on our experience, the top two options businesses are more inclined to choose are Resindek® solid flooring and bar grating. Together, they make up to about 90% of the mezzanines we supply.
Other options include solid steel deck and concrete flooring, but they are rarely used, except for certain applications.
Now, let’s learn more about each mezzanine floor.
ResinDek® Solid Flooring
ResinDek® flooring panels are a high-performance engineered solution for industrial mezzanines. They are manufactured with wood fibers, formaldehyde-free resins, and a wax emulsifier.
ResinDek® panels were engineered for heavy wear areas and robotic applications. They can withstand pallet jack loads, heavy equipment, Automated Guided Vehicles (AVG), and Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR).
Therefore, they are an ideal solution for the supply chain, material handling, and self-storage industry.
Bar Grating
Bar grating is the perfect option for mezzanine open flooring. It’s durable, strong, and designed to allow water, air, and light to pass through.
This is great for warehouses that may have fire safety concerns. In fact, one of the benefits of leveraging bar grating is the ability for sprinkler penetration.
Mezzanines with bar grating decks are most commonly used as additional storage space by manufacturing plants, warehouses, and distribution facilities.
However, one thing to keep in mind is that the grating makes it difficult to roll heavy loads of inventory. If you can, plan on not using anything with wheels on it!
Solid Steel Deck & Concrete
Both solid steel deck and concrete make strong floors and are good options for wet environments.
A solid steel deck is usually made with checkered steel plates, also known as steel diamond plates. They are a good option for heavy-duty flooring surfaces and are used in both food and pharmaceutical facilities.
Concrete is more aesthetically pleasing than the above-mentioned options. It is mostly considered by organizations that want their mezzanine to be a permanent, easy-to-maintain part of their warehouse.
Both concrete and solid steel deck are great choices if your mezzanine needs to be fire-resistant to meet building codes.
