How Much do Warehouse Mezzanines Cost?

It differs for customization, but start budgeting at $20-30 per square foot.

When initially asked that question, most suppliers will provide a simple, but unhelpful answer: “It depends.” Which is technically true. Since mezzanines are custom built, the specific criteria and accessories will affect price. But that answer doesn’t help to determine whether a warehouse mezzanine will be a viable solution to your storage challenges. After determining that a mezzanine may solve the storage challenges of your business, the next question inevitably is – “What will this cost? Will this project be possible based upon our available budget?”

Now as previously stated, the specific criteria of your mezzanine will certainly affect the price. If you are looking at outside of the box applications or accessories, your price can vary. Higher load capacities, numerous mezzanine gates or staircases, upgraded handrail, and more can cause the price per square foot of a mezzanine to rise.

But most companies are looking at a basic storage mezzanine. They run out of storage space and they need more – quickly. Most companies have the following specs:

  • Deck height of somewhere between 10-12 feet
  • Load capacity of 125 or 150 PSF
  • 2-Rail Handrail
  • Straight staircase(s)
  • ResinDek Flooring

For mezzanines with these most common specifications, the number that we provide our clients with when discussing budget pricing is $20-$30 per square foot. This number includes mezzanine materials, freight to your facility, and installation. Installation can vary as labor rates across the country are different. So if you are in New York City, figure to be on the higher end as opposed to someone looking to construct a mezzanine in Charlotte, North Carolina. Also, the larger the mezzanine, the lower the price per square foot based on economies of scale.

There are also other factors that can increase the price above the $20-$30 per square foot discussed above. The mezzanine may require lighting, fire suppression, permitting or concrete footers. From an installation perspective, a congested work area will increase the installation price. Having to work around operations or work areas will cause the installation to move slower which will increase the price.

While there are many factors that can affect the price of a mezzanine project, the cost of a basic storage warehouse mezzanine is fairly predictable. For more in-depth projects or applications, get in touch with a pre-fabricated mezzanine supplier and they will be able to provide a quote or budget pricing.
