 Customer Description

Our customer is a global leader in the manufacture and supply of premium labeling solutions.

 Problem/Inquiry

Our customer was seeking to increase production at one of their manufacturing and distribution facilities. In order to accommodate the increase in production, this would require new manufacturing equipment as well as increase storage space for both raw materials and finished goods. The customer needed to figure out the best way to layout their facility in order to both add the production equipment as well as store the materials needed to support the production equipment.

 Solution

Mezzanine Distributors worked together with the customer to design and layout not only the storage systems but also the facility in general in an effort to optimize both storage capacity and flow of product. Our collaborative approach went through many iterations and product ideas until we both jointly settled on an option that was ideal for the customer.

Our designed systems and complete turnkey offering included the following:

  • Selective pallet rack materials designed and engineered for the specific layout and location
  • End of aisle protectors to reduce likelihood of rack damage
  • Wire decking
  • Roughly 1,350 new pallet positions in the finished goods area and 900 pallet positions in the raw materials area
  • Timely and consistent communication which led to an installation that was performed with minimal disruption to the customer’s ongoing business
  • Fully engineered and inspected systems

Design and layout took almost 3 months as the customer wanted to look at various systems and various designs to make sure that they were poised for the growth that awaited them over the next 5 years. With our various partners, we were able to provide timely budget information, layout ideas, and answer product question information to arrive at the best solution for our customer.

Once the design and layout was complete, we finalized our proposal which was accepted. From there, we worked with all of our suppliers and manufacturers to time materials to arrive near the customer’s desired installation schedule.

After the materials had arrived, installation began. Anytime you are installing a system or systems in or around an ongoing operation, planning, and more importantly the ability to be flexible and change the plan as events occur during installation, are key. Through a collaborative approach with our customer, our install team, and our project manager, we were able to implement a plan and then navigate our way through the installation as close to that plan as possible to a successful acceptance of the system by our customer.

Each turnkey storage system project presents its various challenges but the Mezzanine Distributors team was once again able to supply a custom designed system and implement it with limited impact to our customers’ operation. If you are operating a manufacturing business that is seeking to expand in similar ways as is laid out in this case study, please contact us and we would be happy to discuss your specific needs.
