 Problem/Inquiry

Our customer was establishing and launching a new distribution center designed to support and supply their western U.S. retail/wholesale footprint. When Mezzanine Distributors was introduced to the project the customer had the initial stages of a design plan developed but needed further materials handling subject matter expertise to flesh out and complete that portion of the design plan.

 

 Solution

Mezzanine Distributors became an integral design partner, joining other project related professional service providers, such as the customer’s architect, engineer, general contractor and others in order to ensure that the storage and materials handling systems we designed, supplied and installed worked within the overall plans and design for the location and, ultimately, the in use activities planned to take place inside the facility.  

Our designed systems and complete turnkey offering scope included the following:

  • Racking/Conveyor/Other Systems
    • Mezzanine Distributors worked with our customer to analyze their business objectives and key performance indicators as it pertained to their materials storage and handling requirements.
    • Utilizing that information we contributed a number of enhancements to their existing plan and design in order to optimize this part of the facility plan.
    • With this final design and the seismic considerations based on the site location we performed and supplied preliminary materials engineering.
    • Upon completion of this step we finalized our project budget numbers.
    • Our customer approved our budget and authorized placing all related materials fabrication and production orders.
    • Specific system scope/materials-
  • Racking
        • Supplied stamped structural engineering design and calculations.
        • The designed racking storage systems included selective pallet rack for bulk storage with various sections to include floor level picking locations served by a carton flow supply.  As an added safety feature Mezzanine Distributors recommended, designed and supplied rack netting materials to be installed at the bulk storage locations that were over the floor level picking positions.
        • We coordinated the timing and the customers’ receipt of various deliveries of these project materials
  • Powered and Gravity Fed Conveyor
      • Supplied supporting structural engineering services to assist with jurisdictional permitting requirements..
      • Based on our understanding of the customers key objectives for this system’s integration into the overall flow of materials in their operation we worked with a leading conveyor manufacturer to develop a system to optimize and achieve these objectives.
      • We coordinated the timing and the customers’ receipt of the delivery of this portion of the project materials.
      • Mezzanine Distributors coordinated with our customer and their other trades on the job site to ensure a smooth and professional installation of the final conveyor system in accordance with the original design plan.

      • Designed and supplied custom workstations that integrated into the picking operation to enhance packing, labeling and shipping functions. 

Conclusion

Mezzanine Distributors partnered with our customer to become a trusted resource supporting their internal and external project teams to deliver critical revenue enhancing systems in their new distribution center location.  Our ability to coordinate and integrate into the overall project process allowed our customer the benefit of knowing that this part of the overall project was being professionally attended to and delivered, on time and on budget.
